In 1998, I started SMI and brought my passion for art and interior design to life. Since then I’ve been transforming interior spaces in a way that aligns with my clients’ taste and vision. From Broken Pipes to Re-imagined Home

After water pipes broke and flooded this walkout basement, I used the renovation opportunity to reimagine how this family uses their basement. Working together with the client, we decided to remove a free-standing gas fireplace and replace it with a built-in unit in a better location, doing that opened up the space to a more functional and refined furniture layout.

The Family Entertainment Space

This family does a lot of entertaining and wanted a space that could multi-task. There was a beautiful stone wall in an alcove space already, so that was the inspiration to surrounded the new fireplace insert with similar stone and built-in cabinets to make a cohesive space with a beautiful focal point.

The Game Table

This family is very competitive when it comes to board games. The upholstered high back dining chairs around the game table offer players a comfortable seat for those captivating games of risk.

The Billiards Area

To finish off the entertainment space we placed two daybeds in the alcove end to end with a storage cubby between them. This created a multi-functional feature; a cozy sitting area and an extra place for overnight guests.

The Wet Bar

To finish off this family’s fun space, tapping into the existing plumbing on a small wall just outside the bathroom created a perfect location for a must-have entertaining feature, a wet bar. And of course, a mini-fridge!

This was an incredible opportunity to work with a family who had their world turned upside down when their pipes burst.
